California Amazon was formed by the legendary Judell Du Long in 1973, and was arguably the first video production company that focused primarily on competitive wrestling.
During its existence California Amazon filmed / photographed and released close to 700 submission wrestling matches, the first half of which were shot on Super 8 films with a switch to VHS and Beta in 1981. The earliest California Amazon videos were from 1974 with the latest videos released in 1985. Judell said in a 2014 interview that the first California Amazon match released on VHS and Beta was Nancy Skarvan versus Cindy Brooks.
There were also a number of boxing matches released by California Amazon.
The first ever California Amazon video pitted Judell Du Long versus Nancy Hogle.
