Judell Du Long is widely considered to be the foremother of female submission wrestling. Her company California Amazon has changed the female wrestling subculture by introducing real competitive matches to the genre, and by making it available to the masses. Judell's venture brought the attention of many to what until then was considered a closet industry.

Judell Du Long (b. Judell Ann Metz) was born on 16th of August, 1938, to the Metz family, in Missoula, MT. Her grandparents immigrated to United States from Germany in 1860s. She grew up with 4 older brothers in Polson, Montana until she got married to Jack Du Long in 1960 and moved to San Diego, California. Her introduction to wrestling took place in 1960s as she trained under Mildred Burke for some time. Judell founded California Amazon in 1973.

Judell Du Long passed away on 4 July 2017.
