Laura vs. Becky Festelle Tournament in London, 27th January 1990. Video: FV71-5

This fight was notable in that this was Laura’s only competitive event for Festelle and it also appears to have been Becky’s first appearance with the organisation. Both women had already fought and won their earlier fights in the afternoon. Becky had won her match against Lee with 2 pins and Laura had comprehensively defeated Miranda by 5 falls and a retirement. Laura might have been a newcomer to Festelle, but it was clear from the start of the match that she was no rookie when she took Becky to the mat with a hip toss. Becky then struggled to avoid submitting to a range of holds over the next 4 minutes until she was forced to submit to an unusual a combination of leg and arm holds that had her pressed to the mat.

The second session started with a period of rough and tumble wrestling during which time neither wrestler was able to get the upper hand. After a reset it was Laura who once again was able to establish control by getting Becky in headlock which she converted to a full nelson. Becky managed to escape the full nelson and there then followed a standing face off when both fighters looked for an opening to take control. It was Laura that found that opening and she took Becky to the mat in a headscissors from which she was unable to escape and was forced to submit for a second time.

With less than a minute remaining on the clock the third session started with Laura going straight onto the attack aiming to get a three point win over Becky. She took Becky to the mat in a side headlock and then rolled her over onto her back to pin her in a classic grapevine pin. After a short hesitation the referee completed the 3-count for the pin just before the time-out bell sounded. So the match ended with a convincing victory for Laura by a margin of 3-0.
